Weather Channel for sale

The Weather Channel is for sale if anyone has 5 billion sitting around. Landmark is selling off this nice little asset that brought 32 million unique users in November, according to the Nielsen/NetRatings data posted in the NYT. That’s bigger than Facebook (who knew people are more interested in pollen and mold counts that what their friends were doing).
Suitors include the usual suspects: Fox/News Corporation, AOL/Time Warner.
Personally, I’d love to see Yahoo! pick it up and eventually work it into the Yahoo! newspaper consortium deal so we can play with the weather data at MG.
Yahoo! is already tied into local news, employment classifieds, search, and the online advertising aspects of our business. In terms of site traffic, weather is the only “big thing” that’s missing from the model.

Also, more importantly (locally) is that Landmark is also putting Style Weekly, The Virginia Pilot and Roanoke Times for sale too.
