Hmm. I see that one of my photos is being used on answerbag.com.
Should I be proud of this or no?

I just took my 14,000th photo on my Nikon D70. Whoa. That’s a lot of pictures.

Until it becomes second nature, I have to constantly remind myself to pick up the camera before leaving the house each day. Yesterday was no exception.
As we walked out the door to do some shopping, I forced myself to turn around and grab my trusty D70. The late afternoon light was beautiful, the sunshine slipping under the rain filled clouds. By the time we hit the Wal-Mart parking lot, the rain was coming down hard, so we waited in the car for it to stop.
A few minutes later, the front passed, the rain stopped and this was left in the storm’s wake:

Anitra, the girls, and I drove to Fredericksburg, VA on Sunday to visit my sister and her family. While the girls played, I spent some time talking about camera gear with my brother-in-law, as he had recently purchased a new telephoto lens for his Nikon D70, the same camera I use.
He was also kind enough to give me his old lens, a Nikon 70-300 G.
I decided to take the lens for a test drive at lunch yesterday by way of a 2.5 mile walk along the James River (thank you gmap-pedometer.com).
Without question, this is a consumer-grade lens, complete with plastic mounts and body but the glass is good enough for me and the extension it offers over my current 18-55 VR is absolutely stunning. In fact, the increased range was such a change that I found myself constantly rethinking shots or simply panning around to explore subjects that I normally wouldn’t consider.
Nothing like a change in perspective to shift your thinking a bit.
Overall, I’m really pleased with the lens. While I’d love to have the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 D (which would only set me back about 900 clams), this is a great addition to my kit. As long as I have good light, it should be perfect for our most common uses - photos at Teagan’s softball games, some light weekend travel, and the occasional snapshot of birds and other critters in our garden.
